This painting depicts Princess Alexandra of Denmark arriving onto British soil for her marriage to Albert, Prince of Wales and eldest son of Queen Victoria.  The wedding took place at Windsor Castle on March 10, 1863.  They have just crossed the North Sea on the royal yacht 'Victoria and Albert', accompanied by a squadron of British naval escorts.  In addition to Albert, other royals depicted here are King Christian IX of Denmark, Princess Dagmar, later Empress of Russia, Prince Frederick of Denmark, Prince George of Denmark and Queen Louise.
